When USCIS Requires Background Check Translation
Green Card (Adjustment of Status — I-485): Applicants who have lived outside the United States for 6 months or more after reaching age 16 must submit a police clearance certificate from each such country. All foreign-language police clearance certificates must be certified translated.
Consular Processing: Most nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories require police clearance certificates from every country of residence for 12+ months (or 6+ months in some categories) after age 16. Every foreign-language certificate must be translated.
Naturalization (N-400): Applicants with arrests, charges, or convictions anywhere in the world must submit certified translated foreign criminal records as part of the good moral character evaluation.
